Alexeus Ruland, the founder of Every Mind Matters Project (EMMP), didn't start advocacy at the commencement of EMMP. From a young age, through learning about her brother's diagnoses and how to best be there for him, Alexeus strove to be the advocate that he couldn't yet be. She began researching the different diagnoses, fostering further compassion, and speaking out against the wrongs that he faced from others.
Growing up, Alexeus dealt with her personal mental health journey. Feeling misunderstood, seen as just another patient, and feeling alone in her experiences, Alexeus began thinking about the changes she wanted to see.
After learning how to manage her diagnoses and advocate for herself, Alexeus wanted to continue pushing for others who may not feel as though they have advocates on their side. From this, Alexeus pursued her Bachelor's in psychology with a minor in anthropology; Alexeus combines what she has learned from both of these subjects to foster a compassionate and empathetic approach when she makes a difference.
While she pursues her Master's in Mental Health Counseling, Alexeus did not want to wait to make a difference, so, she didn't and is now growing EMMP to be the difference.
At just 17 years old, Alexeus transformed her passion for psychology and advocacy into action by creating the Every Mind Matters Project for her Girl Scout Gold Award. Her vision was to create a resource that encouraged open conversations about mental health. providing education and support for those who may not know where to turn, and breaking down the stigmas regarding various diagnoses and what mental health really is.
Since then, Alexeus has continued building upon that foundation through her academic and professional journey. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Anthropology and currently works as a Community Health Worker while pursuing her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling.
Through her education, advocacy work, and experiences supporting others, Alexeus continues to expand EMMP’s mission — bridging the gap between awareness and understanding while empowering individuals, families, and communities to prioritize mental wellness.
EMMP strives to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health by sharing resources, encouraging conversations, and giving back to the community. Mental health journeys look different for everyone, and every individual deserves access to understanding, support, and hope.
As EMMP continues to grow, Alexeus grows with it and its mission. Why? Because the Every Mind Matters Project is more than a platform: it is a reminder that every person’s story deserves compassion, every person deserves a chance, and every mind deserves care.
